Archana Puran Singh recently reminisced about a humorous incident involving her son’s teachers, who once thought they were fabricating stories about commuting to school by boat. While most of Bollywood resides in the bustling areas of Bandra or Juhu, Archana has been a long-time resident of Madh Island. She purchased two properties when the area was still relatively secluded. This decision sparked quite a stir with her husband, Parmeet Sethi, who threatened Archana Puran Singh with divorce over it. They have since acquired a third property. It cost them eight times more than what they originally paid for the other two.
Archana Puran Singh recalls husband Parmeet Sethi threatening divorce
During a conversation with Bharti Singh and Harsh Limbachiya on their podcast, BHARTI TV, Archana explained how she came to live in Madh Island, which features a spacious home with ample room for her children to play. “I got quite a cheap deal back then,” she recalled. “Parmeet was used to living in flats like most people in Bombay, while I grew up in a bungalow in Dehradun, where houses tend to be larger. I was firm about needing a proper bungalow with at least six or seven big rooms.”
She continued, “Parmeet was somewhat open to the idea, saying, ‘If you want to purchase one, I’ll allow it.’ I teasingly remarked that he was giving me permission. But then he added, ‘If you’re planning on getting two, I’ll divorce you.’ To which I replied, ‘I don’t care if you divorce me, I’m buying that bungalow.’ When he saw I was serious, he conceded, ‘Okay, fine, let’s go ahead.'”
Parmeet on agreeing to buying the property
Parmeet, who joined the podcast discussion, admitted, “I was initially against it.” However, the tranquillity of the area eventually won him over. “As I started to design the house, I grew to like it. The peaceful drive home from work was a major selling point. I realized I could enjoy this serenity every day, not just on weekends.”
Archana shared that they originally intended the bungalow as a weekend retreat while living in a flat in Andheri. It was Parmeet’s suggestion to make it their permanent residence. And she eagerly accepted, saying, “I’m a bungalow person at heart.” They decided to give the move six months to see how it worked out before making any long-term decisions.
Archana on her kids story at Madh Island
Archana also recounted a funny incident from their early days in Madh Island. “My kids used to take a boat to school. One day, I received a call from the school saying, ‘Your kids have been spreading rumours.’ I panicked and rushed there. And I found out they had written that they travelled by boat. The teachers simply couldn’t believe it,” she laughed. When they asked her for the truth, she confirmed it, leaving them stunned. “Even I had to convince them that we lived in Madh Island!”
Reflecting on the past, Archana noted how isolated the area was when they first moved there. “Back then, there weren’t any restaurants. We had to send a car to Versova just to buy groceries. Now, it’s slowly developing, and many actors are moving in. Pankaj Tripathi is one of the latest to buy property here.” She proudly mentioned that her third property cost eight times what she paid for the other two.
